UBI is universal basic income and it’s the idea that government gives everyone money to ensure that nobody goes without. While this is well-intentioned it often fails as it leads to inflation and decreased productivity. It also requires taxation to stay funded which is theft and extortion. It's just welfare. Reliance on the state keeps you weak, it's why they want it. One need only look at the current welfare system and how its inception has been detrimental to certain communities.
Additionally, and I know it's fiction, but in the show "The Expanse", the United Nations in that universe is the dominant world power, essentially a one-world government where UBI and drugs disguised as free healthcare are normal.
It's a dystopian vision where people are packed in on top of one another, can barely make ends meet, and spend most of their day high out of their minds.
Now, if you understand that the previous statement could just as well be applied to modern-day cities like San Francisco and Philadelphia, then you understand how insidious UBI is.
