The Writers Guild of America is on strike for the first time since 2007. While striking isn’t new at all, to me, this is indicative of the fact that Hollywood has declined as a cultural institution. The situation to me seems that the bean counters want to treat all writers as gig workers instead of salaried union employees. Add inflation bringing down real wages for just about everyone and a strike like this makes sense especially when you consider just how many folks live paycheck to paycheck these days and always have.
